About Me

We would describe Kylie as warm, friendly and easy to talk to. Discussing nutrition can feel uncomfortable or personal, but she makes you feel like you are opening up to a friend and her style is never judgmental or harsh.

Kylie Gearhart, MS, RD, CDN is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who earned her Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s Degree in Nutrition Science from East Carolina University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Outstanding Graduate Award. During her Master’s program she published her thesis which explored food and sugar addictions, especially in those recovering from substance abuse, and how to combat these cravings. Kylie has worked as a Clinical Dietitian for over six years in a number of hospitals and outpatient clinics including Lenoir and Wayne Memorial Hospitals in North Carolina, and Hahnemann University Hospital and the Center of Hope ALS Clinic in Philadelphia. She is now the Assistant Clinical Nutrition Manager at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital in New York City. She is involved in corporate wellness, often giving lectures or one on one nutritional counseling at different universities and offices. Kylie has treated thousands of patients with a wide variety of disease states and nutritional needs utilizing top-notch individualized medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling.

Kylie has experience working with weight management, obesity, pre-diabetes/diabetes (type 1 & 2), diabetes insipidus, hormonal disorders (PCOS, hypothyroidism), cardiovascular disease/hypertension/heart health, GI disorders (gut health, FODMAPS, SIBO, IBS, IBD, GERD, Crohns/colitis), renal disease, dysphagia, oncology nutrition, eating disorders, food allergies/intolerances/sensitivities, vegan/vegetarian diets, tube feeding and general healthy eating.

Counseling Philosophy:

Kylie believes nutrition is an integral component of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In her many years of clinical experience, she has witnessed first hand how significantly diet can impact the overall health of clients. She is a firm believer that a healthy or restrictive diet does not need to be redundant or tasteless. She enjoys pairing her extensive knowledge in medical nutrition therapy with creativity to produce fun, simple, delicious, and individualized diets, recipes, and food ideas. Her goal is to provide the education and tools necessary for clients to make the best nutritional decisions whether they are at work, home, a restaurant, grocery store, on the road, at a holiday party, or wherever their unique lifestyle takes them.

She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the Greater New York Dietetic Association (GNYDA).

Personal Interests:

Kylie is a self-proclaimed “foodie” who enjoys maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle while experiencing life to the fullest. She loves cooking healthy meals (and posting them on Instagram, of course ☺), trying new NYC restaurants, and taking boxing, yoga, Pilates, dance and spin classes. An avid skier since childhood, Kylie enjoys hitting slopes all over the world and spending quality time with her friends, family and cuddly, 90lb Briard “puppy”, Brodie.

With two daughters and long days at work, my nutrition and exercise programs were put on hold. I was struggling with weight loss. The holistic nutritionists at NYC Nutritionist helped me find easy meal plans that revolved around my daily schedule and set me up with a food sensitivity test to pin-point problem foods and a great nutrition plan with my favorite flavors.

Questions? We have answers

Will my insurance cover these sessions?
When you book an appointment, you’ll be asked to submit your insurance information. From there, you will hear back before your appointment on general coverage. While we can’t guarantee coverage (as it is always up to the insurance company), we can provide an estimate or idea of what may or may not be covered while working with your RD.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the sessions?
We highly recommend compleating our pre-evaluation forms. Not only is this very helpful for the RD you’ll be meeting with, but it gives you a chance to take time and think about what will really help you on this journey.

Other than that, we also encourage sending over any recent labs, food records, or referrals you received from your doctor or therapist.
How many sessions will I need with my RD?
Follow-ups are integral for progress and to get the most value from working with an RD. We don’t require or mandate any set number of follow-ups, but we do recommend meeting at least every 1 to 2 weeks for the first 3 months of your first appointment. Of course, this may not be possible for certain individuals and that’s ok too. The best part is that all treatment timelines are flexible and adjustable to fit your needs.
What if I am not satisfied or unhappy with the dietitian I am matched with?
One of the perks of working with us is that we have a variety of qualified RDs and all have their own individual techniques, specialty areas AND personalities. Nutrition can be very personal and for that reason, finding an RD who meshes with your personality is paramount. If you’re not clicking with your dietitian, you can simply message or email us and we can match you with a better fit. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if that’s the case! It’s important that you connect with the provider to see the maximum benefits.
Is it possible to ever do in-person sessions?
At this time, we are only set-up for virtual visits, except if you live close to the NYC area. Of course, if and when that changes, we will be notifying all of our clients and patients.
How does billing work?
We understand navigating insurance can be quite confusing and overwhelming. Luckily, if you’re using health insurance for your sessions, we will do all the billing for you. We submit claims to your insurance company within a few days of your appointments. Copays and deductibles are charged a few weeks later as we like to wait for the explanation of benefits to come back first before making charges. These charges can be automatically processed using the card you have on file. If you ever have additional billing questions or concerns, you can contact us at any time and someone will assist you promptly!
What happens if I need to cancel or can’t make an appointment?
Emergencies happen and we try to be as understanding and accommodating as possible. We do have a 24 hour cancellation policy in order to respect the time of our practitioners and other clients who are trying to schedule appointments as well. That said, if something unexpected or emergent comes up, we just ask that you notify us as soon as possible. Otherwise, we appreciate that you keep all your scheduled appointment times to the best of your ability.
